Auditions Open for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Adirondack Regional Theatre is excited to announce auditions for our upcoming production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, coming to The Strand Theatre in Plattsburgh this December!
This production will be a little different from ART’s traditional shows. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be a concert-version production, giving us an opportunity to put the spotlight with the incredible musical talent in our community. With a shorter rehearsal timeframe, the production will focus on the musical and artistic elements of the show, with minimal sets, props, and costumes.
A Colorful Story Told Through Music
One of musical theatre’s most enduring shows, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat reimagines the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, his eleven brothers, and the famous coat of many colors.
Told entirely through song and guided by the Narrators, the story follows Joseph, Jacob’s favorite son, whose brothers sell him into slavery out of jealousy. Joseph eventually finds himself in Egypt, where his ability to interpret dreams leads him from imprisonment to becoming Pharaoh’s right-hand man and ultimately back to his family.
The musical is packed with memorable songs and a wonderfully eclectic mix of musical styles, including French ballad, country-western, and calypso influences, along with beloved numbers such as “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door.”
Auditions
ART is looking for a large cast and vocal ensemble, and there are opportunities for a wide range of performers. While there will be many spots available, being cast is not guaranteed.
Virtual auditions are available for performers interested solely in an ensemble role.
The vocal ensemble will remain onstage throughout the performance, either sitting or standing on raised platforms. Chairs will be provided, and performers who may be physically limited in movement can remain seated with limited choreography.
To audition virtually, submit a 1–1½ minute video performing a song of your choice. Choose something within your vocal range that best represents your voice and ability, including dynamics, tone, and diction. Dancing is not required, although light movement is encouraged since the vocal ensemble will have light choreography.

Saturday, October 3, 2026 1–5 p.m. ART Warehouse 5 Latour Ave., Plattsburgh, NY
Auditioners should prepare a 1–1½ minute song of their choice that highlights their vocal abilities and matches or represents the character they are auditioning for. If you're having trouble choosing a song, you may use one from the show.
Auditions will be scheduled individually in five-minute time slots. Please complete the audition form (linked above) beforehand to help keep the process running smoothly.
Callbacks
Sunday, October 4, 2026 1–4 p.m. ART Warehouse 5 Latour Ave., Plattsburgh, NY
Callbacks will focus on vocal performance, character chemistry, and dance capabilities. Those called back will be contacted the evening of auditions with specific callback information and timing.
Who Are We Looking For?
There are opportunities for performers with a variety of vocal ranges, performance styles, and experience levels.
Featured roles include:
Joseph — Confident, charming, and vocally strong.
Narrators — Strong singers with great energy who can command the stage and confidently sing harmony.
Pharaoh — A high-energy, Elvis-inspired rock star with confidence and charisma.
Potiphar — A sophisticated, self-indulgent Egyptian businessman and strong character role.
Mrs. Potiphar — Confident, energetic, and a strong dancer and actor.
Jacob — Joseph’s father; a strong character actor who can sing and act.
Butler & Baker — Pharaoh’s right-hand characters who each have memorable interactions with Joseph.
Joseph’s Eleven Brothers — A group of skilled movers and singers, with Ruben, Simeon, and Judah featuring vocal solos in distinctive musical styles.
Vocal Ensemble — Singers across SATB ranges who will help bring the colorful world of the musical to life.
Dance Ensemble — Advanced dancers who will take on more challenging choreography in selected numbers.
Because the rehearsal process will be shorter than ART's previous productions, performers are encouraged to become familiar with the show and its music before rehearsals begin.
